E.9 · Cultural humility

Here's a skill that never shows up on a certificate on your wall: cultural humility. Let's look at what it actually means to do it as a behavior analyst, and why "I read up on it" isn't the full answer.

Key takeaway
Cultural humility is an ongoing practice, not a course you finish. You keep examining your own learning history and biases, you treat clients, families, and supervisees as the experts on their own culture, and you choose goals, procedures, and reinforcers together with them. When feedback shows a mismatch, you change the plan with them, not for them.
