E.7 · Multiple relationships

Your client's dad coaches your kid's soccer team. Your cousin wants you to treat his son. A parent offers you babysitting money. Each of these turns a professional role into a multiple relationship, and today you'll learn exactly what to do in each case.

Key takeaway
A multiple relationship is when your professional role overlaps with another role, such as family, friend, business, or a second professional role, with the same person or someone close to them. Standard 1.11 says to avoid them and to tell clients and supervisees about the possible harms. If one develops anyway, take steps to resolve it. If you can't resolve it right away, set up safeguards, make a plan to resolve it, and document everything.
