E.11 · Personal biases in professional work

Every one of us carries biases. That isn't a character flaw, it's learning history. What the Ethics Code cares about is what you do once you notice one, so let's work out exactly what that looks like.

Key takeaway
Code Standard 1.10 covers two things: personal biases and personal challenges, such as health, legal, financial, or relationship problems. Behavior analysts stay aware that either one could interfere with their work. When interference is possible, they take active steps, like seeking consultation or supervision, getting training, or reducing or transferring services. They also document the actions they took and the outcomes. Just being aware, or promising to set your feelings aside, isn't enough.
