B.2 · Stimulus and stimulus class

One beep is one thing, and a whole family of things that all get the same response is something else. Let's get stimulus versus stimulus class straight in the next couple of minutes, because this distinction is core to the test content outline.

Key takeaway
A stimulus is one specific energy change that affects you through your senses, like a single beep. A stimulus class is a group of stimuli that share a common element: their form, their timing relative to behavior, or their effect on behavior. If the members look or sound alike, it's a feature class. If they don't, but they still evoke the same response, it's an arbitrary class.
