A.4 · The four domains of behavior analysis

Behaviorism, EAB, ABA, and practice sound like four names for the same thing, but each one has its own job. Once you can spot an activity's main purpose, sorting it into the right domain gets a lot easier.

Key takeaway
Sort an activity by its main purpose. Behaviorism is the philosophy behind the science. EAB is basic research that discovers principles, and its subjects can be human or nonhuman. ABA is applied research that uses experimental control to show an intervention improved socially significant behavior. Practice uses established procedures and data-based decisions to help a particular client, without the main aim of producing new knowledge.
